Our Church Giving

Giving Options

church givingsTrinity Church is part of The United Methodist Church worldwide.

We are a connectional system. That means that the resources of this individual congregation are used not just to finance ministry in this community alone, but combine with other churches to extend ministry around the globe.

Your giving is an act of worship and makes possible the ministry of changing lives, transforming communities and renewing the church.  You can choose to give in a variety of ways.

Trinity’s General Fund

Our General Fund supports the day to day ministry of Trinity Church. Regular giving to our General Fund provides Christian Education for our children and youth, sustains our mission efforts in the community, maintains our building, and pays our salaries. Your faithful giving finances an extensive and effective local ministry.

Our General Fund also subsidizes the ministry of the extended church. Have you heard us mention the term “apportionments”? This word refers to the missions and ministry happening in The United Methodist Church beyond Trinity’s walls, at the district, regional, and global levels. Visit www.umcgiving.org for more information.

Local Designated Giving

At times, persons would like to give to specific causes within the church. We honor all such giving, reserving those funds exclusively for the work for which they were donated. If you are contributing to a particular purpose within the church, please be sure to mark your check or envelope explicitly so we can follow your direction.

Memorial Giving

Trinity Church Milford Memorial TreeYou may choose to designate Trinity Church as a memorial recipient at the passing of a loved one. The first $15.00 of all such contributions goes into our “Garden Fund,” which pays for the purchase of a leaf printed with your loved one’s name for the Memorial Tree located on the wall of the hallway adjacent to the sanctuary. The family retains the right to specify the use of additional monies that come in, and our Memorial Committee will be in contact to ascertain your wishes.

You may also choose to give to Trinity Church in memory of a family member or friend. If this person had a passion for a particular area of ministry, you may want to designate your donation to that sphere of interest. Undesignated contributions allow us to choose the ministry with the greatest need.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

The United Methodist Church is a connectional church. We have great strength in the number of committed Christians within our denomination who combine their offerings to accomplish a greater good together. What does that mean as far as missions?

Our denomination supports UMCOR, whose stated mission is “to alleviate human suffering – whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster; without regard to race, religion, politics or gender.” An offering taken during the springtime season of Lent in United Methodist congregations, “One Great Hour of Sharing” covers the cost of doing business for UMCOR. As a result, when you contribute to UMCOR, 100% of your donation goes to the stated need. UMCOR provides a first response effort during natural tragedies like the earthquake in Haiti or the tsunami in Japan. For more on the ministry of UMCOR, visit http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/.

Six Special Sundays of Giving

The United Methodist Church offers six opportunities to give to special programs within the extended ministries of our denomination. For more information on the power of giving within United Methodism, visit www.umcgiving.org. The special giving initiatives include:

  • Human Relations Day in January just prior to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, supporting programs that help kids grow spiritually and come to know Jesus.
  • One Great Hour of Sharing on the fourth Sunday in Lent, supporting the work of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
  • Native American Ministries Sunday the second Sunday after Easter, funding ministries with and for Native Americans.
  • Peace with Justice Sunday the first Sunday after Pentecost, supporting justice and peace ministries.
  • World Communion Sunday the first Sunday in October, providing scholarship and training programs within the church.
  • United Methodist Student Day the last Sunday in November, providing loan and scholarship funds for United Methodist college, university and graduate students.
