What's down the road?

Down the Road

What's down the road? This question is getting a lot of mileage these days about a multitude of issues. Being a presidential election year, a commanding and chief concern is about what's down the road with a new president and new leadership for our country. With the economy in the condition it is now, we are in the market to know what's down the road. Being at war in Iraq for over five years now, we desire peace of mind about what's down the road.

On the local level, construction being planned for Wolfpen Pleasant Hill Road is a driving force behind the question of what's down the road. Road work and a number of other issues lead us to meditate upon what's down the road for Trinity.  Concerns in our personal life such as family, finances, health and employment bring to the forefront of our minds what's down the road.

All of these and many more issues are sparking  widespread discussion, speculation and concern about what's down the road. The question of what's down the road wouldn't be complete without considering the end of times. Obviously yet profoundly, we are closer to the end of times than we have ever been. The changes, advances and events of the last 100 years are absolutely amazing and incredibly significant.

Not knowing what's down the road can cause serious anxiety, stress and fear. We can end up worrying about all the "what ifs" and their possible impact upon us and our loved ones. We can have concerns about how we will deal with this, that, or the other if it happens down the road.  At this point, what do we do about what's down the road?

In his writings about what's down the road, Peter encourages his readers to remember the words of the prophets and the commandments of the Lord spoken by the apostles. He continues, saying, since particular things will happen down the road, Christians are to conduct themselves in holy living and godly behavior. Christians are to be diligent about being found by Jesus doing what they are supposed to be doing whenever what's down the road comes to take place.

The main point Jesus made in speaking about what's down the road is for us to be faithfully doing what we are supposed to be doing and to be ready in our relationship with him for when things happen. In Psalm 37 we are instructed to "Trust in the Lord and do good. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it." We are to do what God wants us to do and to trust in Him no matter what is down the road.

James acknowledges in his letter that we do not know what is down the road. "You do not know what your life will be tomorrow." James teaches us that our plans for tomorrow and what's down the road must always reflect our regard for and dependence upon God's will.

What's down the road? We simply don't know. Not knowing, we are to faithfully be doing what God has told us to do. We are to trust in the Lord and be of good and holy behavior. We are to plan in the priority of God's will and be ready in our relationship with the Lord for what's down the road. To deal with what's down the road, let us follow in the direction the Lord has given us, for the Lord's way is always the high way.

Way to Go,

Pastor Kirk

May 4 "What In the World Do We Pray For?"  We probably hear a lot about prayer and yet have a lot of questions about prayer. We may question what we are supposed to pray about and if prayer brings about the results it is supposed to.What does God want us to know about prayer?

May 11 "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things"  We probably have a lot of things that are favorites for us. Our favorite things can bring us joy and blessings, just like some special ones being celebrated on this day:the Holy Spirit, mothers, and music. What does God want us to know about our favorite things?

May 18  "What Is Man that You Are Mindful of Him?"  We probably wonder at times about the whole of creation and our place in this world.Looking around us at the majesty and awe of creation we may contemplate how we fit into the grand plan. What does God want us to know from the majesty of His creation?

May 25  "What Do You Want on Your Tombstone?"  We probably give some thought around Memorial Day to the topics of life and death. There is the opportunity to think about those who have gone before us and how their life touched ours, and also the legacy we ourselves would like to leave. What does God want us to know about the legacy He wants us to leave?
